Dr. Sandra Makkar earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan and completed her endodontic training at Temple University, where she was the recipient of the Richard Weiss Achievement Award for outstanding proficiency in the graduate program. Dr. Makkar completed her general practice residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital in New York. She is also board certified in endodontics in Canada, where she is a fellow of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Makkar is a diplomate of the American Association of Endodontists and is a member of the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, The North Shore District Dental Society, The Ontario Association of Endodontists, the Endo Inc. Root Canal Specialists Study Club, the North Shore Perio-Prosthetic Study Club and the Tri-County Study Club. She served as secretary of the North Shore District Dental Society and is a board examiner for the Royal Canadian College of Dentists of Canada.

Dr. Makkar has been a clinical instructor at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine Department of Graduate Endodontics since 1998 and serves on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Journal of Endodontics, for which she has reviewed articles for publication since 2005. She has taught continuing education courses at Tufts School of Dental Medicine and has presented at the Yankee Dental Congress, at the International Association of Dental Research, and at American Association of Endodontists meetings. She has also been published in the Journal of Dental Research and the Journal of Endodontics.
